Losing a dog is every pet owner’s worst nightmare, but it is not every day your four-legged friend turns up in the hands of a Hollywood actress.

This is what happened to Chelsea Blackwell in New York, who was distraught when her dachshund Blue suddenly disappeared.

After driving around the streets for an hour, she came across police cars and cameramen close to Albany’s Greyhound bus station.

She told Times Union Albany that she thought she had stumbled upon a crime scene, but it turned out to be a film shoot, which Blue had unknowingly walked on to.

Asking the film crew whether anyone had seen her beloved dog of 15 years, they confirmed he had be found by none other than two-time Oscar-winner Hilary Swank.

Ms Blackwell stated: “As soon as she got out of the car, I kissed Blue and said, ‘Thank you so much’.”

Swank posed for a photo alongside Blue and his owner, which was posted on Ms Blackwell’s Facebook page, going on to receive hundreds of likes and being shared more than 100 times.

Although little is known about what movie Swank is filming in Albany, it is well-publicised that the actress is a big fan of dogs.

She is a spokesperson for Iam’s Home 4 the Holidays campaign to help find permanent homes for dogs and cats living in shelters. She also has rescue animals herself, including a Jack Russell Terrier / Corgi called Karoo and a Golden Retriever mix, Rumi.

Swank also set up Hilaroo Foundation, which pairs abandoned pets with youth who have been given up on by society.
